Gray deposit, discoloration in apartment and nasal passage after repainting. Mold? Lead?
The outside door and hallways of my apt complex were recently stripped and repainted. A few days later, I noticed a splotchy, light gray stain on every light-colored or clear plastic item in my apartment. I first thought it might be dust, but it doesn't wash or wipe off. Then I noticed when i blew my nose, the mucous was dark gray. The building is old, and possibly has lead paint under the layers of new paint. My unit also had mold growing on one of the walls near a window unit several months ago, which was painted over. What could this deposit be?
If they repainted with grey paint I would say that the "dust" is overspray of the paint and if you were around the spray it will definately get into your sinuses. the mist should wipe off with soap and water but the painter should have been more careful about the over spray. the mold on the wall though can be very dangerous. did they treat the area with a good mold remediation product prior to painting? did they check for the source of the moisture and fix that problem also? if the moisture is coming from condensation you need better ventilation or a de-humidifier. wiping the molded areas down with clorox water will kill any surface mold that you have but if it continues it must be taken very seriously because mold CAN KILL.
